Magneto Armature Shortcut.

My Magneto Armature (BSA WM20- 1942) has a shortcut in the primary windings or in the condenser . And so it does not spark. I still have to take the Armature out of the mag. Some time ago I bought an Armature 454385 (for N or F type Magdyno?) on an Auto Jumble. It is a NOS in original box dated 1966 or 1986? And it has a perfect Spark at 2 Volt Primary test, at least 3/8. It is for sure that I bought the wrong type for my MO1 Magdyno. But can I use this Armature by changing the drive shaft end? In this Forum I red NOS Armatures often have a week condenser? When from existing Armature the Primary Windings are shot and the NOS one not useable I have to find someone in The Netherlands who can rewind my armature. Who? Is Bright Spark still an option for condenser problems? Thanks in advance for your comments. Lammert de Vries

Lammert, try Kamp in Reutum 0541 670451, kamp.wt@planet.nl
He did a perfect job for me a couple of years ago.

Re: Magneto Armature Shortcut.

Lammert, even an N.O.S. armature will fail eventually, I always use Jan de Laat, very affordable prices, and quick turnaround;

My Matchless Always starts first or second kick! (second because I'm too lazy to retard the ignition!)

Re: Magneto Armature Shortcut.

Yes Brightspark is a good fix for condenser failure, particularly if you can make a good job of attending to all the other parts like brushes .. bearings etc yourself.

Obviously the old condenser must be disconnected in the armature & the magneto needs to be up to scratch elsewhere but its a very cheap thing to try first before booking a time consuming & expensive rebuild by a specialist .... (in my opinion).
