Bits and bobs from the darkest corner of my shed

Please can anyone identify any of the parts pictured below, I'm thinking some of it may be Norton?

Top right I think is from an MO1 but is quite pitted so I'm guessing its scrap?

The right hand pinion in the second row is made from the same fibre as the big gear in an MO1?

All suggestions gratefully received.

Rob

Re: Bits and bobs from the darkest corner of my shed

sprocket is Matchless timing

long bolt is one of matchless rocker cover bolts

fibre gear is magdyno drive as is the round object onthe right

group of small bolts look very much like the bolts fromthe botom of teledraulic forks that hol d the dampers in place

to the right of the fibre gear looks norton oil pump drive

3rd from left top line is BSA gear box mount nut

small gears look to be BSA or Norton oil pump

Re: Bits and bobs from the darkest corner of my shed

The shouldered stud with the small threaded section is a Norton primary chaincase inner to engine plate stud.

Large nut with round section is Norton gearbox top fixing.

Pinion with the three keyways is Norton crank timing side pinion.

The two worms look like the Norton crank pinion retaining / oil pump drive nut.

The small gears could easily be Norton oil pump internals.

If the small screws have an inbuilt washer under the head then they're Norton

The sprocket could be Norton magneto drive. I think they're 17t.

Well, it's a start !

Re: Bits and bobs from the darkest corner of my shed

Thanks for that Ken, the small gears (bottom right) are larger than BSA M20 oil pump gears but could well be Norton.

Here are some bolts that appear similar to the ones posted. These are the mudguard taill holders. Size of these is 2 cm x 2 cm. And the washer seperates.

Henri, if you have packets for sale, please put my name at the top of the list !

That is all I have Rik! If you need two, you are most welcome...

Re: Bits and bobs from the darkest corner of my shed

I could use a couple, Henri. They're nothing like high-tensile and I lost a couple undoing them. One side of my bike has originals and the other ordinary bolts with a thick washer. No-one's noticed yet....I'll check the lengths to make sure they're the ones that I need.

Re: Bits and bobs from the darkest corner of my shed

Just remember also that these are BSA.

Re: Bits and bobs from the darkest corner of my shed

Henri, the rounded top and dull chrome finish really look Norton to me. Are you able to open the label out and see if it says LV7/NC ?

Re: Bits and bobs from the darkest corner of my shed

Hi Rik,

Check out the two photos below. Perhaps both marks used the same bolts.

Here is Russells list showing these bolts used for the WM20:

Re: Bits and bobs from the darkest corner of my shed

Here is what they look like on my cutaway BSA. Still a work in progress. Jan I need one stay for the rear left.

Here is a better look at the oil tank and the engine training cuts. The Lodge plug is in its tin container.

Rik, don't the Norton bolts have the washer attached? Lex had these made for our B4's. They are 1/4". Ron

Re: Bits and bobs from the darkest corner of my shed

Wow Ron, that Cad plating looks just like Original!!!

But still like the matt Chrome better, it's only 50 times more expenive!

The BSA bolts are very different to the Norton stuff.

Rob, the bottom left thingie looks like a Norton brake cam bush, they are held on with a slim nut on the inside of the brake plate, but could be wrong, looks maybe too big?

Cheers,

Lex

Agreed, I had just come to the same conclusion.

A recap on the original picture, I think top left must be Morris Commercial C8, probably something to do with the gearbox or transfer box.

And the cluster of bolts with thin washers are BSA.

 photo odds4_zps53815182.jpg

The long nut is Norton gearbox adjuster as Rik suggested and the other bit is again Norton for the primary chain case.

The timing sprocket has a taper in the middle, its pictured here with two other that I suspect to be Norton so is it definitely AMC? along with the long bolt?

But confirmation is needed on these 4?

Re: Bits and bobs from the darkest corner of my shed

17T sprocket with a taper is matchless mag drive; depending on the hieght of the boss behind it it will be top or bottom. top sprocket has a sligtly deeper boss.
blot is rocker box, one for a headsteady, bottom thread looks to have been shortened.

I could have sworn those bolts with washers were teledraulic but when I looked teledraulic ones are flat not dome head.

as I said at the beginning the fibre cog is magdyno drive; the other one with unscrew on on it seems Norton to me. But its a long time since I worked on scrap iron [sorry 16H ]

Haha, yes that is the Norton timing pinion.

Bottom right, some dynamo armature gear.
