I will be most grateful for any help here.
According to Radco (Chapter 5, page 110) a new sprocket, suitably machined can be welded onto an old hub, also suitably machined. He recommends three or four half inch stitch welds on ether side. (preferably with weld prep!)
Has anyone successfully done this? Also, would brazing be preferably to welding?
Failing this, is a new sprocket/brake drum available anywhere?
Regards
Peter
Hi
Back in the seventies I had this done by Roger Maughfling engineering on a goldstar drum. This was completely successful but was so long ago I don't know if their still in business or what, but yes it works.

P.S. This was a professional job I wouldn't trust a homemade bodge!!
These replacement sprockets used to be available especially for the BSA brake drum. I don't think it was a military item but rather AA or WegenWacht as we call them. I don't think you will find these any more but I do still have a few for my own use. I have done a few and it's actually quite easy to do but you do need a lathe that can take the brake drum.
A good quality (Made in England) replica drum and sprocket is available from Russell Motors for about £75...I've got one of these 'on the shelf' for when I rebuild my M20 later this year...Ian
