hi john,when the fuse blows,there is then no circuit so nothing will work,the fuse is the safety link.although the dynamo is producing current all the time,the regulator lets into the battery enough to keep it topped up,when it is fully charged the regulator disconnects until you use some more from the battery.if the fuse has blown the battery is out of the equasion.

Thanks Rick, Next time when the engine is running I disconnect the fuse and see what happens. (Lights and ammeter). So when driving I recognize a broken fuse at once.
With the engine running nothing happens when the fuse blows untill you slow down then the candle will go out.
You get the same effect with dead battery or a broken wire.
The important thing s to find out why the fuse blew in the first place.
