Re: Magneto spares?

Most of the dealers that specialise in British motorcycle spares will stock what you're looking for.

May I respectfully suggest Draganfly (www.draganfly.co.uk) for your B33 spares? I use them for my BSA bits and have found them very helpful.

Otherwise there's Hitchcocks, Ace Classics, Burton's, Tri-Supply - the list is endless. They all have lots of spares and stuff.......

I'd be curious as to what you used as your search criteria in Google in order NOT to find anything?

Re: Magneto spares?

I use Tony Cooper for magdyno spares. T.C. Motorcycles. Not sure he has email?

Re: Magneto spares?

Hi Maxwell

with Sean Hawker now effectively stopped attending aitojumbles, I buy now from 2 contacts, the first whose details have been provided by Ron, Tony Cooper, The Magneto man

He doesnt always attend Kmpton Park, but does on most occasions

The other is also a kempton attendee, his name is Chip, please dont ask me his second name, he keeps a good stock of manetoo/dynamo spare parts and also provides armatutre exchanges etc

he is based in letchworth so not that far from you

His contact number is 01462 623687

He is good to deal with with my experience in mind

Best Regards

Re: Magneto spares?

Yea cool I am aware of all these suppliers but I did not know that they do specific magneto spares, for example draganfly, they seem to offer a magneto reconditioning service, I dont want that!!

I googled magneto spares and found magneto.co.uk but looking through their list online they have no screws that i need.

I'll try the chip guy, he is who i got the mag done by,
an those others cheers

Re: Magneto spares?

Are autojumbles cheaper than the dealers? Regrettably being down on the furthest tip of Africa, this really isn't an option.

So us folk down here are dependant on the bigger dealers and the reliable one's stick.

Quite a few folk here use Sean Hawker who has a great reputation, although turnaround is often a bit slower than it should be.

Cheers,

Bruce

Re: Magneto spares?

Last time I spoke to Sean Hawker, he told me that he had given up his business and was happily working on the railways. Ron

Re: Magneto spares?

It's a shame Ron, he had also told me he was finding it difficult to make a living from the mag & dyno business but had hoped to tip away at it whilst holding down the railway job, sorry to see him go

If you look at the autojumble scene, there are fewer & fewer mag & dyno specialists attending, even Dave Lindsley has given up on Stafford - the biggest & best event of the year

Hopefully, someone with their costs & overheads in control could step in to provide this service in the future !!

In answer to your question Bruce, you can be lucky at autojumbles and find cheaper than dealer goods there, but with fuel costs on the up & up, pitch costs etc, the gap has closed significantly in recent times.
The main advantage is however the concentration of traders and if you factor in all the bits you buy you can save even on mail costs alone, that is if you don't have to drive for miles & miles to get there

We don't know how lucky we are sometimes here in the UK with access to such events !!

Re: Magneto spares?

I am also likely to give up the Jumbles due to the increasing costs of the ones that are worth doing...In 2013 it is £188 for my pitch at Stafford plus 300-350 miles worth of diesel for the van..and days of work preparing for it..E Bay is looking more and more attractive as a way of selling parts and tends to achieve better prices anyway, which more than offsets the e bay charges etc..It's a 'no brainer'..I'm winding down the more 'general' engine/box rebuilding as well..I plan to move more towards the better paid tuning side and ultimately to concentrate mainly on the manufacture of replica parts where it is much easier to quantify and control costs and profits...Ian

Re: Magneto spares?

It looks as if we'll soon have to chip in together to pitch a tent as a meeting place at the jumbles.

I have to say that having sat beside Ron at Netley while he was trying to practically give good stuff away, I despair of the average 'punter'. Most of them couldn't even be bothered to rummage.

Re: Magneto spares?

It's a shame..the jumbles are a great social event and I really enjoy meeting up with everyone, but sadly that doesn't alter the economics of it which are moving in the wrong direction if you are doing it as part of your income..With a £188 stall and approx £75 of diesel even if I made 100% profit on every part, which I don't, roughly the first £500 pounds worth of parts sold go just to pay for being there..It's like giving away a complete engine for example...Ian

Re: Magneto spares?

Sound as though the jumbles have become a cash cow for the folk providing the venues?

Things have a way of evolving. Is there no way that there is a farmer or a public place where jumblers could set up their patch for free? Or are there a wad of local regulations governing such a gathering? Or am I being naive?

One of the major issues with eBay is that for the harder to find stuff you'll always be bidding against someone who has the loot to pay silly prices if desired. great if you're selling! The run of the mill stuff is OK and is often competitive, though.

I still reckon that finding a friendly farmer is the answer! But the rules down here are somewhat different to European governance.

The magic of finding that little gem at a jumble is thrilling though, isn't it!

Cheers,

Bruce

Re: Magneto spares?

Hi Bruce..There are regulations up to your ears if you want to run an event. Saying that though if the organisers of the current events price out the people that make the event they're 'killing the goose that lays the golden egg' I would say..It's like the local councils though...They just put up the business rates every year irrespective of the fact there is a massive recession and business incomes are falling...Reality?..what's that?.Ian

Re: Magneto spares?

Thankfully Bruce is from the land of non health and safety and you can actually do pretty much as you please, a pretty good place to be, I've been a few times to SA and thoroughly enjoyed it, my missus is from Johannesburg and everywhere I stayed was with her friends and relatives and I got to shoot guns, drive cars without all the legalities and even drive after a couple of pints, I wouldn't dare do any of that here!
When I worked for Greenlooms he used to buy containers of bikes from there and by all accounts there is/was a lot of stuff there but when I went there none of the missus's friends were into bikes so I never found any bike bits, but there are a lot of rust free old cars there.
