however, many Allied were " allowed " to escape back to the uk to carry on by giving them time to repair, or catch a bus ! desertion was a big problem for Óglaigh na hÉireann with over 5000 crossing to the north...the german would have been interned in the curragh.

a spit was dug up recently in Donegal, near to my home place, and the pilot from that was allowed to return, there's an article on it somewhere, and they cleaned the guns, and fired them , not bad after 70 yrs in the bog !

Hi Roger, I think he'd have been in big trouble if he'd shot the German. I guess it would be classes as murder in a neutral country..?
