Hi Hinrik, Russel Motors had all the bushes when I did mine. Also most of the bushes from a Commando gearbox were exactly the same and fitted straight in.
Thanks for the replies. I got an email from Ken in NZ, he
says he has a long one I can put in the lathe to trim down
on the outside and that it has standard inside dia. Cant order
this from Russell motors, since no I dont have the partnumber?
BMH in Australia says they can make them for me but are asking
for the sizes. Anyone know? Seams one of the bush has a shoulder
so I cant see how I could use the one long one, unless I am
wrong about the shoulder.
I didn't have any part numbers when I ordered from Russell's I just told Les what bush I wanted and he sent it. I also had a stock of Commando gearbox bushes which I could try and see they were the same for some of them.
The pinion bushes are often interchangeable with later boxes but the bushes for cam plate and quadrant are, as I recall, larger on the doll's head box - I have an idea that they changed from the Laydown box onwards.
The specialists in pre-war Inters must have a source or be able to supply.
Stu Roger's 01945 585116 (the Norton International man) could probably help with this. I bought Dollshead gearbox shims and gaskets from him, so he probably does the bushes. He's not cheap though.
I got mine from The Matchlessshop in NL, had them made to nice close tolerances, when these bushings are sloppy, the gearbox will leak, and more important, it will jump out of gear!!
Rob, thanks for sharing the partnumber. Seams to me that one of the bushing has a lip while the other has non. Is it the same partnumer on both locations? See photos. What mounts in that threaded hole?
I don't remember if both bushings are the same, maybe though! A cork washer goes on the lip of the upper one.
The threaded hole is for the stud that holds the selector forks...
The bushes are identical as shown by the part number.
Outer diameter approx 20,6 mm inner diameter approx 17,36 mm and length approx 22,35 mm.
They are straight without flange and what you see looking like a flange should be a cork washer according to the spare parts list although I have found boxes with a felt washer.
I send you some pictures of a housing in which you can see it properly.
When I overhaul BSA gearboxes I measure the shaft carefully (after any cleaning up required) and frequently have to make the bushes to achieve the correct tolerances, as the shafts can end up undersize through wear/refinishing...Buying new bushes in this instance (which seem to be pretty expensive) would be pretty much a waste of money if they were still too slack after fitting...something to consider...Ian
