Cap badge identity, etc

Can anyone help with identifying the the cap badge, or anything else for that matter in this photo? I've been researching my Dad's service record and after receiving a photo from a very kind bloke who studied the 148th @ Wrotham, the attached chap looks very-much like my Dad. I'm keen to put 2 and 2 together and find out as much as possible from this photo. The quality isn't great but if you spot anything please let me know.

Lee.

If it helps, this should be a link to the pic on Photobucket.

Re: Cap badge identity, etc

Is that the 148th RAC from the 33rd Armoured Brigade? looking at the chap on the right, he's in kilt, so some scottish regiment.

After 2 minutes of googling, there might be much, much more, if you can narrow it down.

Cheers,

Re: Cap badge identity, etc

Thanks Lex. My Dad was RASC and spent that part of his war with the 148th Inf Training Brigade at Wrotham where he instructed on bikes and, possibly, other things as well before joining the 701st where he convoyed the D-Day stuff to holding areas on the South coast in preparation for the big day.
The picture as a whole shows a cross section of dress and badges but I was hoping to find details that may, or may not, provide proof that it really is my Dad.

Ps. I think he's bottom row, 4th from the left.

Re: Cap badge identity, etc

That photograph looks very late-war to me. Most of the men look to be officers - pips or rank badges on the shoulders. They're all wearing collar and tie which indicates officers unless it was 1945 or later, at which time other ranks were allowed to tailor their best battledress.

Most seem to be wearing medal ribbons but are too young for them to be WW1 decorations which again points to a very late-war or just post-war date.

Re: Cap badge identity, etc

Many thanks Rik. Is there enough detail in the photo to indentify the cap badge?

You could join this forum

and post the pic and a question there. You might find someone who will help you. They are badge specialists so someone there should have more chance of recognising it. Whatever way you go let us know how you get on please. Always interesting to know a personal slant on things.

By coincidence I'm also a member of that forum, but I think you will need a clearer scan if anyone is going to be able to identify it.
