Primary chaincase oil level/quantity. WM20

I've hunted high and low, including the forum and can't find reference to the amount of oil to put in my chain-case. The BSA manual says 'fill to a level just above the drain plug', or words to that effect. How much oil is that? Half pint?

I'm assuming engine oil (sae 40) is still the preferred lubricant?

Hi Stuart...You don't need to measure the quantity. With the bike on a level surface and stood up straight, take out the chaincase inspection plug (the big brass one on a WD model) and the chaincase level plug, which is located on the outer cover under the footrest. Then slowly pour oil through the inspection plug hole until it starts to trickle from the level plug hole. Replace the level plug and inspection plug and it's job done...Straight 40 oil is fine..Ian

Cheers Ian,

My bike is on its main stand on the bike table at the moment so I'm guessing i'm best to leave it until I get it on the deck and get someone to hold it upright before I fill.
