Anyone have a solution to Lucas headlamp rubber bead
Hi
Anyone come up with a novel solution to replace the Lucas headlamp rubber bead so my headlight doesn't rattle? Mine broke and I can't figure out a replacement
Re: Anyone have a solution to Lucas headlamp rubber bead
Contact a local Hydraulic company with the id of the O-ring and the thickness of the rubber bead and they will make any size you require, I use Glucester Hydraulic Supermarket.

Somewhere I have a small quantity of thin black rubber string that loops through the small holes in the headlamp shell; I got it from a vendor of all kinds of rubber profiles for cars at the Vehikel Show a few years ago.
If I find it you can get some, otherwise you have to wait for next Vehikel in December

Hi all, am not sure we're talking about the same things here ??
There's the very thin rubber cord that goes through the top of the headlamp under the dash panel, to stop water entering the headlamp, and on postwar headlamps there's a sort of rubber bead that goes round the glass and reflector.
On wartime headlamps this is a cork gasket glued to the reflector.
So I was under the impression that Jeff needed the big rubber seal?????

Hi Lex
Not sure, I have not looked inside my headlamp yet !
I have available a massive range of rubber O rings, round in section, just need inside diameter x thickness to work from.
The standard rubber is nitrile, but others are also available to help with temperature problems etc.
Other than that, 'flat' rubber or cork gaskets are available to me but I would have to buy them in. Not a problem, but they would not be freebies, merely sold at cost.

As for the rubber beading under the headlamp ammeter/switch panel, there is a BMW motorcycle O-ring 63 12 1 351 414 that works very well. I can't remember what it is used for on the BMW, but it is about 150 mm diameter with a thickness of about 3 mm.
