On my 1949 M33 the chain case has a 3/8 bolt on the bottom, is this just for draining or is it a level plug, if its just for draining how much oil does the chain case take.

Hi Ian..The drain plug on these cases is not immediately obvious..it is right underneath about midway along through the bottom of the INNER case. The one below the footrest on the outer face of the outer cover is the level plug....Ian
