Hallo, on my bsa M20 (KM 20) 1939 is there a headlight mounted with the name Joseph Lucas DU 142 F. the rim is fixed with a screw. Does anyone know what the F means? TNX
Here are some sections from a November 1943 Chilwell spares list (Rob Van Meel reprint, Thanks Rob) which shows several Lucas motorcycle headlamps.
DU142F 8inch With switch panel
D142F 8inch Without switch panel fitted to some early makes with the switch panel in the petrol tank, so the "U" means switch panel?
DU42R 6.5inch with switch panel and flat rim clip, so does "R" mean flat clip and "F" screw clip??
DU142/CVC 8inch as the rim has the same part number as the DU142F & D142F? but obsolete by 1943, see "Demand MT3/LU/DU42/MAG".
And today at Shepton Autojumble I nealy bought an 8inch DU142 shell made from brass, it was £30 with a rim but there were a couple of splits on the edge so I resisted. So does a brass headlamp have a different code to a steel one????
