Re: contract no.

Hi Ori,

Is that your frame number or as you say a contract number. Could you send me a photo of the number?

We do have a post-war military key card with frame number 12345 on it, that bike went to Jamaica, where are you located?

Re: contract no.

hi henk,
well that is my dilema,
the frame no. is: wm20 c 89126,as such it's stamped on my frame, the no that i wrote on my last post was only for explaning the frame no. pattern,
engine no. is:12680
will send a photo after cleaning frames thick coat of paint(ugly purple painted by previous owner)
i'm located in israel,
as well it was registered here on 21/03/42,
i suppose by british dmv office that was here, but it's surely a strange thing that my frame no is my contract no. don't you think?
thanks and hope you can help me with this mystery

Re: contract no.

Just checked the 2 numbers, and 89126 is not in the Keycards, 89125 is, and was sold in..... Jamaica!

Engine 12680 is not listed as a framenumber in the cards.

Not much luck here!

Lex

Just had another look at this Keycard (No. 539b) and to my amazement on the bottom it says: 76ZC00 M5A1730 International Halftrack Personal carrier!!! The British Army did strange things!!!

hi there lex,
thanks for your reply,
well......that makes me even more crazy....
must know the details..and history,
as well to my knowledge,my frame no.is 1943 no. and not 1942 as written in my licence papers,

did you entered the letter "c" before the frame no.?
please help me!!!!

it's placed on the left side of the engine bellow the breather pipe connection and held by two rivets,

Re: contract no.

Hi Ori,

Like most of us, you will probably never find any of it's exact history. They just didn't keep a record of unimportant things like motorcycles. The BSA ledgers only go to frame number WM20 69699 so no information to be found there either I am afraid.

Knowing some of it's history is great but the real fun is in the bike itself.

Re: contract no.

hi henk,
i won't let it go so fast, i'm in the proccess of restoring it to military trim, so you can understand that i need the contract no. to be painted on my tank,
i won't make up one, and if i cannot reach it's contract no. , i wont paint one on my tank,
anyhow, will the r.l.c museum can help with that??
as well i know that many bikes were assembled from bits after the war ended, and were sold between 1952-1956 from military warehouses in cyprus,
i will try to find it's history from the israely dmv,
to see if it was realy registered here on 1942,
not likely,
the registrations here are very mixed up and incorrect,
the overhaul plate dates 1955, so to my knowledge
it was imported from cyprus to israel and wasn't "born" here, but the dmv can help me tracing previous engine or frame replacements, so if there is a previous no.,i can detect it,
on overhaul plate there are the letters:sou/2/3/55
thanks again for your good will,

ori santo (now- completly crazy)

Re: contract no.

well.....
you won't believe what i had found,
the large plate-inside the toolbox, coatet with tons of paint,
the contract no. is: 6veh/8692/cb/26/c the frame no. is different,
no one is to confirm that it's my original plate or toolbox, but it's a start...
thanks again

Re: contract no.

Hi Ori,

You need an account a a site as www.photobucket.com you upload your photos there. Once uploaded you get all sorts of codes with each photo, for this forum you need the HTML code. You copy the HTML code and paste it in your forum post and your done.

You tank c number can be calculated with lists we have and usually you can find the exact right number for your bike.

Re: contract no.

hi henk,
did you see my last post?
there is another contract no. inside my toolbox,
can you check for details?
as well, does it match my engine no.?
there is another frame no. on this plate but no engine no.,
thanks for your help,
your'e the best,

thanks
ori

Re: contract no.

Ori, best to post pictures first, you are mixing up a lot of numbers! a contract number was not painted on the tank, that was the Census number, or wartime registration number, after the war they went to a different system, 2 digits, 2 letters, two digits. Like 00YB99

A lot of bikes were sold by the Army from Cyprus in the 50's and 60's.

Also do not send any money to the RLC in Deepcut, they do not have any wartime bike info! I am the only one who has the postwar "Key Cards" for Matchless, Norton and BSA!

Cheers,

Lex

Re: contract no.

hi lex,
thanks for clearifications,
to get to the bottom of this issue,
should i pay you for a serious investigation?
i am going to get this bike's israely history shortly,
if it's frame was replaced that will explain a whole lot,
as well, can you tell by a contract no.(the one inside the toolbox) what is the engine no.?
so that way i can tell if the plate belongs to my bike,
thanks for helping me

Re: contract no.

hi there lex-and thanks for helping me in this mess...
well, i took apart the large toolbox plate, and placed it in thinner, the next thing i saw was a beautiful original plate....
after i read the key card post i can tell that you can help me by looking at the military vehicle no.,
so my details are:
vehicle no.:03 yd 77
chasis no. (not my frame no.): wm 20 83730
contract no.: 6/veh/8692/cb/26/c (what makes me wonder about my frame no.)
overhaul in 12/52
i am not sure that this is my original plate,
but if the records can verify an engine no. we can learn more about its origin,
photos didnt come out well,
will clean it at my workplace tomorrow and send you some clear photos of my frame no., engine no, and plates,
p.s
can i contact you at your email??
thanks again for your kindness and being so helpful to me,
best regards
ori
