Hi, I am trying to find out how pannier frames are mounted on a Matchless G3L.
According to the picture above there should be a connecting tube between the two pannier frames on the back side.
It looks as if this tube is just mounted to the bottom of the frames and has no further connection to mudguard or mudguard stay, is this right?
Are spacers used between the lugs on the luggage carrier and the pannier frames?
How do the brackets on the front bottom side look like?
I made a picture of a G3L on a militairy vehicle show recently but I doubt if these are the original brackets.
Does someone have a picture of the original brackets?
Many thanks in advance.
Peter.
Peter here are a few pix from my album. There are spacers between frame and carrier. My parts list just says 4 spacers with the same number. But on mine (and others I have seen). The spacers on the left are 1" long to clear the sprocket etc. About 1/2" on the right. The picture you took at a show is not correct. There should be a lug on the back of the mudguard stay to accept a bracket to bolt under the frame. Again I have a spacer on the left, but none on the right.
The tube you refer to at the back is in fact a solid bar. It is not bolted to the rear guard. The bolt you see is the bottom number plate fixing. Ron
My mistake then Lex. I seem to remember now that the chap who makes the repro Matchless carriers, does them all with round bar......Cheap and cheerful. Ron
