Hi folks, I have a spare WM20 engine with some missing parts that I was going to rebuild then sell on. On removing the main bearings on the timing side, I've discovered that someone in the past has damaged the timing side case as well as the base of the inlet cam spindle. I would like your opinion on weather this case is usable because I wont sell them if they are not.
It might be hard to see from the photos but someone has been hitting the case below the cam spindles so much so that on the bearing side there is an impression of the outer race and the odd crack.
These cases are a matched pair and I would hate to have to scrap them.
That would be a difficult repair..even if successfully welded making good again afterwards would be awkward, and the value of the cases is not high..I would scrap them or save them for a 'sectioned' engine...Ian
I don't have the inclination to repair it so they are free to a good home if anyone wants them paying postage from Australia.
What I don't understand is why someone would need to beat on this part of the casing?
