I see a lot of sources quoting BSA M20's horribly poor ground clearance. Does anyone have the actual clearance on a bike off its stand in standard specs. Also how different is it from an Enfield CO / Matchless GL or Triumph 3HW.
My M20 is actually faring better than my 3HW right now. Oops do i need a new spring
I've gradually demolished two early pattern sump guards and damaged the underside of my silencer and exhaust pipe riding my M20 off road..in this situation they are definitely too low. However, there isn't much in it when compared to other military bikes..an inch or two max. I would say. The Ariel and the Matchless G3L are a bit better but in truth they all have insufficient ground clearance! (though are typical for the time). I have found factory figures for ground clearance tend to be..err...optimistic. If you look at factory pictures of Goldie trials models I think they must have the forks jammed on full extension and the tyres over inflated..
