another Question. I am unsure if i mix up something but I thought the place to mount the speedo bracket is the one marked with red circles. But I am unsure because this is the Position for the grease nipples. Does anyone have an Idea/picture of the correct position for the Speedobracket.
That's where they fit Phillip although the bracket that you show looks to have a larger 'rise' than normal.
The bracket should fit under hollow screws into which the nipples screw. It looks as if someone has fitted larger nipples direct onto yours.
Many pre-war owners opted for the panel tank version but those that didn't had the central fixing which changed to the off-set WD type later in 1940. The off-set bracket is a dead giveaway on WD bikes pretending to be civilian.
Kostas,
since i had to have the holes drilled and tapped i cheated and used 1/4" UNF grease nipples, they were available off the shelf at a local engineers supply shop.
The spreadsheet on Robs 16H site records 1/4" 26TPI for all of the grease nipples.
(Edit - not sure now whether they were actually 1/4 BSF, which i think is what the originals were, i may have had a senior moment when labelling my spares? )
Bram,
I do have those nipples fitted on both my bikes (luckily they came with the bikes).
Was just curious to know where I could find them because I haven't yet seen them for sale!
As Lex says they are a bugger to find!
Kostas
Iain, Those two grease nipples aren't 1/4" in dia! Have to measure them if you want, but not right now... Kostas
Thanks Kostas, would be good to know what they should be.
When i bought my bike the speedo bolts didn't have grease nipples, (the bolts weren't drilled) so goodness knows when that spindle had last been greased. At least now it is getting some lubrication.
