i just made up a main wiring loom with nice black wires,
whats the ideal stuff to wrap it in, most people just wrap it in black electrical tape, is there something much better i can use, like a cloth wrap? i know i can use a rubber sleeve from the light unit.

From what I've seen, the M20 loom was fundamentally the same as the Norton. The rubber tube from the headlamp (small cycle inner tube, as recommended by Lex) runs along the frame tube to the top of the saddle stays. Apart from that, there was no loom binding as original but in a few strategic places, wires were held together by a wrap of 1/2" black cloth tape.
If you are looking to hide some modern wire, the best thing to use is self amalgamating tape (which can be bought from Maplins or anyone who fits satellite dishes etc) it looks just like a rubber covering when it has amalgamated itself
