Some explanation regarding the K2 and the M20. One of our MVT members David, owner of the K2, was approached by the family of Kate, the lady in the photo who has just reached 100 years of age. Kate and her younger 97 year old sister drove K2s during WW2. They ferried casualties from Belgium and Holland down to the Channel Ports for their return to England.
We were privilaged enough to be invited to join in part of the family's celebration. Kate's cake was delivered in the K2 and presented by myself. She is a very remarkable lady, David, myself and the other MVT members who supported with their vehicles, were very happy that we could help to make her day a bit special.
Hey Jon you must have felt very privileged. Great photos.
By coincidence, we had my Granny's 90th party on Monday. She was with the NFS in Norwich, and ended up as the senior leading fire woman at Bethel street station. She certainly had a fantastic war (her words)as American airmen were billeted at her house, so she was often out on jollies in US aircraft. Hope she makes her 100th.
Cheers, Mick.
All those ambulances are called 'Katie' after their designated model number 'K2'.
We did a similar thing down in Devon with Colin H's Katie for another old lady ex Katie driver a few year back.Ron.
That was a good trip out Ron, it made her day, think we had 4 bikes, and a Jeep for the family to ride in, but I never got any pictures or did I ever hear from them about the wartime photo's also did you know that John Allen (Desert Rat) had passed away just before Christmas, and we had four bikes as escort for the hearse.
Kate did not get to drive the K2 on her Birthday, the Market Square where the event took place was very cramped with many parked vehicles.
However David who owns the K2 intends to visit her again when the weather is better. Kate does still drive so she may well get to re-live her youth in the K2, or at least go for a ride in it.

Steady on Jon - you'll get me talked about !!
Seriously though, I'm hoping to call over and have a good chat and a look through the lady's photo album. A brief look at it revealed lots of pictures from her time driving and maintaining the K2.
Thanks from the family to you and our fellow members of the North Oxon and Cotswolds Branch of the MVT for their part in it all which made it a memorable day for both ladies.
A report of our visit to them has been submitted to Windscreen and there may be the basis of an interesting article following my visit
