Clutch removal

Hi all
I brought my old girl back to Ireland to work on her over Christmas

Main job is to change the clutch as is slipping is becoming worse

I have never done this before so;

After the removal of the centre retaining nut, is it possible to pull the entire assembled clutch off in one lump/piece

I have a pre assembled clutch ready to go on - I hope I was right in doing this

Can anyone confirm ?

Many thanks

Job

Re: Clutch removal

Hi John..The sleeve nut in the center holds the clutch sleeve to the mainshaft..and the rest of the clutch is mounted to the sleeve. So, you can remove it as a complete assembly without undoing the clutch spring nut once the sleeve nut is removed.
You will need the clutch sleeve extractor which screws into the middle of the sleeve.
When using this tool, after screwing it fully into the sleeve, tighten the centre bolt until some pressure is applied and then give the head of the bolt a sharp blow with a hammer. This 'shocks' the sleeve and helps to break the taper fit to the mainshaft.
If it doesn't come right off, tighten the bolt again and repeat...it will come away at some point.
Don't screw in the extractor and then try just to 'wind' the sleeve off...you will probably strip the extractor thread...Ian

Re: Clutch removal

hi john you can remove the complete clutch unit, you just need a good puller.

Re: Clutch removal

Gents

Just as I had hoped, so with a pre assembled new clutch, replacement should be relatively straightforward

Cross fingers :-)

Thanks folks

i think Hans means a woodruff key

No Roger, it is that flat, parallel key! (in my gearbox at least) Woodruffs are semi-circular.
