Try a DVR2 regulator 01489 880552 £44 or look them up www.dynamoregulators.com the guy who makes them rides a Super Rocket and uses one, I have 2 in use on my bikes, they don't show a discharge on idle as some do and will work on a flat battery.
If you are in Europe, have a look at http://www.beckelektronika.nl/ ; Hans Beck makes excellent regulators for E 45 and uses and tests them on his own bikes.
I put in a few of the regulators from Hans Beck in my Norton and BSA and they work fine. It's a "plug and play" regulator, no tweeking needed, no extra cooling needed and the regulators fit in the original regulator housing.
I think Stewarts may be marketing the Hawker Electrical regulator..I use those myself. I know Sean Hawker supplies them with their Sunbeam alternator kit...Ian
Interestingly Graeme, a friend of mine has just picked up an S7 yesterday, and we have already pulled the motor down to find the armature has disintegrated and a sleeve has moved down the bore! A new learning curve for me.Does anyone sell reco'd armatures? We know about Stewart engineers but just sniffing about. We also know about the alternator conversions but everything else electrically is intact. http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg3/takka22/000_0934.jpg
Hmmm... seems photobucket doesn't offer the direct HTM anymore on my account. Any suggestions anyone? It just shows direct link and nothing else?? Which doesn't work obviously!
Talk about complicated. I now have to leftclick thumbnail then rightclick copy! Why do they keep changing everything? I didn't change anything in photobucket so it's their end Grrr..
Re: voltage regulators and spares & Sunbeams made by BSA
Tidy Beam somebody try to Harley it?
They look good in the White Walls as well, stick a set of Harley Road King White Walls on her!
Yep you can get them rewound depends on the type?
Earlier or later..later had 4 brushes.
On the electrical...best to keep them original on standard 6 Volt system if everything is working or add the solid state type regulator to it if original not working thats as far as i would go.
Going the 12 Volt route is expensive with lots of converting...with limited advantages..if your churning at lot of miles and doing loads of night riding..then yes,,for pottering about on A-B Class roads runs and rallys keep it std.
Check on the Beam Webb site or become a remember like myself Sunbeam owners Club. Mike Hope sec.
Good supply of spares and new made parts for them engine mods breathers etc.
All the info is on the site.
I have a hive of info, spares etc etc.
Ive restored 2 now both are on U Tube.
Post me a letter with more details i see if i can help you out i know a lot of contacts and owners as well like myself hold a lot of spares or machine and make them etc
There great machines a bike of beauty made by the BSA Empire from S7 to S8 with more BSA cloned parts brakes etc same as the other 50s BEEZA the S7 became so expensive to build just a pity they run out of steam and BSA unplugged the range before the 60s. Just when a 4 cylinder motor was developed ready for the beam for USA market..the 500cc was rather underpowered lots of issues worm drive as well..underdeveloped bike production costs.
Though so art deco was the S7 Deluxe one of BSA Classics.drop dead looks and sexy fenders with the big Balloon Tyres.
I rebuilt the wheels on the Mist Green one with Chrome Rims and spokes to take the drab black away..works well.
In Wet Look Black...its a real Stunner head turner.
Re: voltage regulators and spares & Sunbeams made by BSA
I use and recommend an MTML regulator.
http://dynamoregulators.com/dvr2.html
The same one is good for 6 or 12 Volts, up to you, and you can always change from 6 to 12
Or the other way round by only connecting or disconnecting one wire.
The installation is very easy, starts charging on low rev, no discharge.
I put one inside an old dead Lucas I gutted.
Re: voltage regulators and spares & Sunbeams made by BSA
