As long as it includes some sitting around with Calvados and strawberry tarts....I don't care. Ron
Absolutely Ron. Let's get pissed up and thrash the bikes round a field somewhere. I won't be there till the 2nd but it'll be straight down the road for a crêpe flambée !
Re: Normandy D-Day program; documentation of the ceremony
As already mentioned before, the brick in memory of Don Fife will be unveiled at the Juno Beach Centre Saturday June 4, at 10h.
The same day, Samuel Cormier will present the replica brick to the family in Canada. It would be nice for Don's family if we could send them a report about the ceremony at Juno Beach. Unfortunately, Eric who could have done this very professionally is most probably not available, since he will be jumping with his team.
Now, is there somebody among us who can video the event? I intend to discuss this with the people at the Centre, perhaps they have facilities to transmit to Canada the same day. We can discuss this on the camping June 1st, in the afternoon.
Re: Normandy D-Day program; documentation of the ceremony
Klinkt inderdaad beter Hans, zal het aan laten passen in mijn paspoort. (does sound better, will change it in my passport (for those who want to know what this is all about))
See you all in Normandy

Generally we all meet up at the round cinema at the top of Arromanches and ride into town. We usually stay for a couple of hours, talking to vets and partaking of the local hostelries. Ron
When are you on the way John ? I'm a bit jealous of Rob as I still have to work three days next week.
I've been fettling the 16H in preparation and fitted a manilla blackout mask today (based on Henk's dimensions). Do the froggies have a daytime headlight law like the Belgians ?
I'm damned impressed with the mask, even if I do say so myself. It is a nice finishing touch.
Hi rik

See you there
Jo'b

I have maneged it Rob v/d Brink is a little bith
Crasy of the phonecals . Nice mask on your
Bike
Hmm...no-one spotted that my mask is upside down ! I picked the wrong period photo to copy - about 10% of those with the BEF seem to have been fitted the wrong way up. Not the most difficult mistake to put right.
Well I was keeping quiet Rik, in case the mask in my G3 was wrong! It is an original mask, courtesy of Steve Madden. The gas paint is also original stuff, supplied by John Tinley.
I have some very influential and agreeable friends.
Ron
Nevertheless Ron, that glass looks a little more obscured than original 'Difusa'
My patch of garage wall is a BEF shrine but the only front elevation photo there with glass intact was this one :-
This is clearly a 1940/41 photo of Canadians in the UK so it looks as if the mistake with the mask wasn't limited to the BEF. Both these photos are 180° out so I don't think that it's just the traditional Norton vibration.
Anyway, it was only two minutes' work to change over.
No-one answered my original (vaguely on topic) question by the way. Do the Frog-eyes have a daytime headlight rule ?
Hi rik
Have never ridden with lights on in france on my m20 & have not been subjected to any stops by the local gendarmarie to date.
More modern motorcycles however are, i'm no worried about it and will drive on as before
:-)

To my mind the frogs have the attitude that everything is ok and no action is taken untill something goes wrong.
Perhaps the mask can be fitted either way? Have you seen a directive?
I think you're right Ron. They'll throw the book if anything goes wrong. I'll restrict my mask to posing round the campsite.
I can't find the official directive but this article in the Telegraph seems to quote quite fully. The painted reflector was barely visible on my bike but it can often be sen in Dunkirk era photos with damaged glasses.
My bike has been over numerous times with a blackout fitted (later type). Haven't had any problems yet..will be there with my blackout mask again around Wednesday lunchtime..Ian
