Spark Plug issues

Hello All,

Probably been talked about many times.
Plugs.
Currently using NGK though seem to fluff easy.
Using
NGK B6HS
NGK B7HS

Most of the factors here just stock the NGK.
Before i was using L10 Champion.
Bike runs perfect and the colour is correct on the electrode.
Been a couple occasions that after a long run and parking up.
When start, result will run then die, plenty of spark.
In with another plug away you go perfect.
The Pre-Mono Block is the correct model as choke size and brass slide perfect tolerance, have the correct jets in the carb on the middle notch on the needle.
I can rule out the Carb, as the bike runs great idles fine and usually starts first time.
So what is the best plug? Books says L10-N8 for certain models.
Or early book goes KLG F70 or L777
Have had the same with the other bikes i have BSA A70 Sunbeams S7 Deluxes, they chuck NGK plugs..so what the best?
Lodge,
Bosh.
Champion.Etc Etc?

What you all running with the crap fuel quality?
Also Needle Setting and Jet size?

PS As a member of the Scottish Military Vehicle Ass.(SMV)
A fellow member gave me a copy of the M20 Maintenance manual.

Re: Spark Plug issues

I've always run Champions without any problems...L82C is the modern number for the iron head or N5C for the alloy heads....Ian

Re: Spark Plug issues

Hi,
I am using the "Champion" L86-C which supposed to be the replacement for the Discontinued "Campion" L-10.
After using few other replacements I found this one the best for easy one kick start and running. Very close specs to the L82-C Ian is using and also copper cored like the original.

Another very good one is the less common Spark plugs E175/14 made by "Beru".

Noam.

Re: Spark Plug issues

Last year, when putting the bike in hibernation-mode, I put a new L-82C - like I always use - in the head.
This week, I checked ignition, everything, but I could jump up and down, no way to wake the engine up
Then in upper frustration , I changed back to the discarded plug, and she became a one-kick starter again...
Explanation anyone ?

Re: Spark Plug issues

Hi Hans.

sometimes condensation of humidity at the top (head),
mostly if In or Ex valves left opened, can cause the sparkplug to act as a "short current" for high voltage.
If you have some time to "Play" you can try burning the plug with some petrol.

many times it comes back to life..
