No, the plaque/brick and the replica have been paid for; perhaps we will still need something for the plaque to be installed in/at the roadside chapel.
One problem on digging into war diaries would be to locate the Canaidan ones. And then to find if there are war diaries of the Canadian Military police unit of April 1945, that actually mention the death of this cpl.
I'll try to get an idea where to look. I'll keep you all posted.
Rob if it helps , have senior contact in veteran affairs Canada, as present not at station in France, back in Canada on short posting till end of feb this year, she may be able to help. Tell me what you want and will forward to her, andrew.h.
Donald fife died when the motorcycle he was driving in the picture struck a land mine on or near a bridge, he was 22 years old and a Sgt. at the time, donald would have been my great uncle, I've been quite interested in his story especially ones relating to his motorcycle
Where are you located Kyle? Be good if you could join us in Normandy for the commemorations. We can take you to the shrine where the picture was taken. Ron
The original posted pictures are now gone, does anybody have the picture of Don Fife on his motorcycle in front of the small shrine that could be re-posted? Thanks.
Some of the pictures on the Canadian Government website originate with members here, thanks for keeping his memory alive, Henk, Hans and others.

Thanks Rob and Ron, I knew I had seen the picture posted here, I tried to look up Sam's pictures in the archive but the album isn't currently accessable. It's interesting that the Canadian Gov. website has some of the photos posted.
I think to have read somewhere he died riding a jeep when he struck the land mine!
Mystery?
Cheers,
Rob
During the visit of Samuel Cormier and James Custeau June 2011, the family said this:
"... We also learned that Donald's death came as he was attempting to back up a jeep after coming under small arms fire. One of the rear wheels hitting a mine and flipping the jeep over. Death was instantaneous and he was buried on the side of the road and then later moved to the cemetery in Holten."
Later, while visiting several sites near Holten, we found the bridge where at the time the engineers were busy putting a temporary bridge in place. Don and an officer were to get additional help, and while reversing the jeep, they hit that mine.
