Tyres

Is the milkitary M20 any different from the civilian version? ie, is the front tyre 325x19 or 350x19? I know in the book it states 325 but I thought the military was 350.

Re: Tyres

Both of my BSA WM20 has 19x3.5 tries front and rear,
But the registration documents states 19x3.5 for one of them (1945) and 19x3.25 for the other.(1941)

I searched data sheets on the web and found:
Wheels: 3.25 x 19-inch front & rear

Re: Tyres

In the RAOC Chilwell records, from contract S2603 onwards (dated 3/3/1943 and commencing WM20 96818) it states "Tyres 3.25x19"

I'll leave it to the BSA experts to decide whether it means that prior to this a larger size was fitted.

My guess would be that around the time that rubber grips and footrests were deleted it was decided to standardise upon the narrower tyre fitted to other (better handling and faster) WD motorcycles. Dual benefits of less rubber and faster steering !

Re: Tyres

Thanks to all you that answered my thread, I think I will go by instinct & put 350 on the rear & 325 front.

Re: Tyres

Hi John...I run 3.50 K70 Dunlops at both ends..they handle well and the 3.50 looks a little less 'lost' in the wide M20 front mudguard.....Ian
