I was browsing around Waterstone's this afternoon and noticed a book on the history of the Worth Valley Railway. There was much of interest but my attention was grabbed by the map of the line. It identified the route very clearly and all the stations. One of them was Mytholmes. Was there a station at Mytholmes? I don't recall it.
Not in my time Shaun, and I travelled that line in the 40's. This is the first reference I have seen to Mytholmes station. What date is the map? Cheers.
Hi, I have been pointed towards this topic from my Uncle - a former pupil of KBGS.
There isn't and wasn't a Mytholmes station. The only point of interest at Mytholmes is a tunnel and cutting - made famous by the film "The Railway Children". They were used for the paper chase sequence and the landslide sequence.
Even these were an addition to the line some years after it first opened as the origianl wooden bridge over the mill pond at Oakworth (Vale Mill) was unsafe and needed replacing.
As with all things in history I stand to be corrected on the above - and would be very interested if I have missed something.
