something to think about

If a sailboat is drifting in an ocean current, with no wind present, can it sail faster than the current if the sails are hoisted?

Yeah - if it's going from North to South it's going downhill!!!!

...depends....is it sailing with or against the current?

How would it be possible to sail faster than the current if you were going backwards?
ASSUMING going in the same direction, the sailboat can indeed make progress through the water, thus sailing faster than the current is moving.
I attribute the lack of replies to this post to (a) not understanding the question (b) understanding but having a complete lack of interest (c) understanding but having no idea of the answer (d) understanding and thinking the answer is so obvious, why stoop to a reply?
I think this one has kicked its clogs........
