KBGS - the politics (or lack of)

In a recent conversation, of the "where are they now and what are they doing" variety, a group of us were discussing people who, during the 1990s, left the school that my son and daughter attended. We identified a number who work as political researchers or assistants to MPs or coucillors/councils, and even one who until recently was an adviser to a government minister and who now writes and broadcasts on political matters. This is a "bog-standard" comprehensive. So I tried to search the web to see if any of my contemporaries at kbgs had gone into this field - no success. 2 pupils at kbgs had fathers who became the local mayor and one had a father who became the town's MP. I was also once told that "Joe" Watthey had been a member of the Keighley Liberal Party. But, other that that and KH's broadly political role in his previous employment, I can find no ex-kbgs lads who became known in politics. In a posting on a different thread I asked about ex-kbgs students who had made names in the Arts - no response. I add to that a query about politics.

Re: KBGS - the politics (or lack of)

An interesting thread. I am not currently a member of any political party but at University was a dyed-in-the-wool socialist and College rep for the Cambridge University Labour Club. I continued to be a member of the Labour Party until 1959. I left because of disillusionment with petty constituency party politics rather than conversion (at that stage) to any other party. I did sometimes move in political circles because I had friends who were (and one who still is) active in Labour politics and one who was a minister and now one of the 'great and good'. During the 70s and 80s I underwent the same political conversion as many of my friends and now do not vote Labour! The determination not to do so was made stronger by Blair. I have never met anyone in politics who was at KBGS so were there any?
