With the latest images of the itinerary and cost of Ben’s ‘1964 Italy Trip’ provided by John Ackroyd, as well as several photographs of earlier trips already posted on this site, does anyone remember when Ben’s first excursion took place and where to?
From my memory of my time at KBGS, it seemed that Ben organised trips every year (at Easter?) until the untimely accident in Namur
Well, the earliest for which there are photos on the site is 1956, then 1959.
I did the Spanish one in 1962 (this was in the summer , not Easter), and the Italy one at Easter 1964. Bens 'Deputy' for both was Physics teacher Mike Jackson, but I recall Mr Day (what was his nickname?) also came to Italy, maybe 'Wilber' Bloomfield did also.
But I think Davids right, there were other trips, I am sure there was a 1963 one, but cant recall it.
Ben must have retired about 1965 after the move to 'Oakbank'
I think he had 2 nicknames. "Who've we got next?" " Marcus", rings a bell. He couldn't understand why people walked around looking so miserable ( so he digressed once, in a lesson where we probably did no work at all, out of his choice)
