Every KBGS student will remember the day their parents received the dreaded letter from Keighley Education Office to say whether their offspring had achieved Grammar School or not. A nail biting time.

I received a new bicycle from Harry Wood's shop in Cavendish Street. Little did I know what was in front of me!!

My mother picked up the envelope crammed with papers and forms with Keighley Boys Grammar School splashed over them, from the postman, and said, "I think our David has passed". I also got a bike.

At Parkwood Juniors, when they got the results of the 11+, these were announced to the kids and the successful candidates were allowed to go home at dinnertime to tell their parents. In present day terms, that would mean a fleet of 4x4s parked up from Park Lane to Thwaites in anticipation of the outcome. What's a bike?
