passwords

Seems to be a dearth of postings since the password system was introduced. Early days, but might it put people off??

Re: passwords

given we've had a posting for a porn site that almost lost us the entire forum, I thought it was prudent to add some control over access. in addition, we've prevously had some imposters posting whose content upset a number of individuals.

Re: passwords

I can't see it being a problem, Allan, it will just take time for everyone who is involved to get their password. It'll not put me off; I was more likely to be put off by idiots and loonies posting messages, which problem, hopefully, we are through now.

Re: passwords

...just thought I'd get things going again! Seems to have worked!!

Re: passwords

Looks like your first opinion was correct, Allan. Going by the apparent age of most of the contributors, they can't cope with another password - every website seems to want one. Could it be they are finding it difficult to remember their mothers' maiden names. (I bet I've got the number and punctuation wrong there.) In the words of Delia Smith, "Come on. Where are you?"

Re: passwords

But what good did Delia's rallying call do? Not a lot, by the look of the final score in that game!!

Re: passwords

If we are concerned about lack of activity on this forum, perhaps we need to promote it more widely. One place Chris Firth might consider contacting is the Keighley News - perhaps journalist John Heald
john.heald@keighley.newsquest.co.uk

Chris, if you'd like me to email John, I will. I'd ask him to consider running a little news item drawing the attention of old boys and others to our web site.

I don't think having to use a password would worry too many genuine correspondents, particularly if it means security from porn brokers and shonks with a political (BNP) agenda.

Re: passwords

the site was "Featured in the Keighley News of March 2nd, 2001" (that fact is mentioned on www.kbgs.com home page!)

but please feel free to contact them again, perhaps they are interested to run another piece

thanks

Re: passwords

I suspect it is neither the password nor the perceived need for publicity that has put a severe damper on the site. My guess is that the poster of the unwelcome message has caused such chaos that the site doesn't make people want to visit (or post) with the enthusiasm that we used to see. Perhaps we can return to how it was, though it may take some time.
