That's right - I remember the sou'wester edict as well. What on earth was he thinking of........or putting in his pipe??

The stories get more bizarre. I have no memory of the sou’wester incident at all.
There were other odd edicts though. Trousers should always have turn-ups (unless they were short trousers). And ties should be worn even when the temperature rivalled the Sahara at noon.
One favoured trick was to crack the tie like a whip until the end frayed. Whether the staff worked out why so many pupils were becoming more and more dishevelled I do not know.
