John used to sit directly in front of me, next to a lad called Barry Lorimer in Form 1C, 1958/9 (Room58 on the corridor leading to chem.labs). After that year we were separated and had little further contact, although I bumped into him years later in a pub in Wilsden. How sad to learn of his premature death.
