School hymn

Hello. My dad, Michael Hensman, was a pupil at Keighley Boys Grammar School in the 50's and he talked fondly of his time there. Unfortunately he has recently passed away and I am making a list of songs which will be played at his funeral and wake and I wondered if there was a school hymn or song that anyone remembers as it would be lovely to have some link to his school years.

Re: School hymn

Yes Kirsty, there was a song (rather than a hymn) which we sang on certain occasions called 'Non Nobis Domine' (not unto us , O Lord) by Roger Quilter

Re: School hymn

Kirsty,

Did your dad live in Sheffield, by any chance?

Re: School hymn

I think I remember your Dad slightly, he would have been same year as my sister (born 1950-51) at Ingrow Juniors.

Re: School hymn

Hello Doug, he did live in Sheffield! He went to University there and then stayed on once he had graduated.
Did you know him?

Re: School hymn

Well then, Kirsty, I met him at a friend's eightieth birthday party at the golf clubhouse at Utley, a couple of years ago. We chatted for a bit, I told him about the annual KBGS reunions in which he seemed interested, giving me his card. I did contact him the following year with an invitation, but he couldn't make it. Knowing now who he was I must say I really am shocked for he seemed hale and hearty on that occasion. I am truly sorry for your loss. Doug
