Harry Milton

Hi I believe I am related to Harry Milton and his family and wondered if anyone had any information about him and his family? I think he had one son, Stuart, I would be grateful for any information anyone has. Thanks.

Re: Harry Milton

Rosemary, bit late in the day now, but I will try to find him on Ancestry (I have a subscription) tomorrow, and it might tell us something. Remember Harry well, had French with him for a couple of years.

Re: Harry Milton

There are quite a few Harry/Harold Miltons of the right vintage. I think he may be the one b Shipley in 1904. Do you know what his wifes names was ? Emily or Annie maybe ?

Re: Harry Milton

Brian - would it help to use Stuart (son) as the starting point? Presumably he was born in Keighley?

Re: Harry Milton

Yes Allan, tried earlier for Stuart, and couldnt find. Got it now, Stuart H Milton b Keighley 1935. Have also got his mothers maiden name , should help me to find Harrys marriage and some more details, .... back later

Re: Harry Milton

Yes Harry married Rosear Williamson at the Church of the Holy Spirit, Beeston Hill, Leeds on August 18th 1930. Both described as teachers. Harrys father also Harry, Rosears father Reuben Williamson (both described as 'gentlemen'). At the time of marriage Harry was living at 28, Sutherland Terrace , Harehills. Rosear lived in Beverley Terrace. I have viewed the actual marriage certificate.
Harry had been born in 1902 in Leeds. His mother was called Clara. Harry died in Keighley in 1984.

Re: Harry Milton

Think thats about all I can find on Harry, hope it is helpful for Rosemary who posed the question.

I am happy to help anyone else on here or privately if they have family history queries as I have access to various records via subscriptions.

Re: Harry Milton

Success! I used to enjoy classes with Harry Blinks. He was so easy to divert from teaching to tell stories of the war! Wasn't one of his anecdotes published in the Clarendon French Course? The one where the Englishman with the abysmal accent wants to ask the way to the station but winds up asking 'Ou est la guerre'?

Re: Harry Milton

I remember when he read the class list as though our names were French. Binns was nearly like Bang ! PIke was Peek, but Pye was Pee .Shuttleworth was a problem (Shootlervort), as was Youngs (Cant attempt it !)

Re: Harry Milton

No,no Allan - It was Ben Tren who could easily be diverted to tell tales of his army experiences! (and other totally irrelevant matters to chemistry)

Re: Harry Milton

Thankyou for all of this. Does anyone know if Stuart is still alive? And if so where? Thankyou so much for all your interest and hard work.

Re: Harry Milton

Rosemary, I cannot find a Death registration for Stuart, but on the source I am using they only go up to about 2008 or so. He is Stuart H.Milton

Thankyou Brian. Do you know if Stuart attended KBGS?

I dont know Rosemary, he was 12 years older than me. There are others on here who were nearer to him in vintage. They may know.
