Please forgive my ignorance, but could someone tell me the date when KBGS ceased to exist? I'd probably find it if I searched through all these entries but I haven't got the patience nowadays. There is a photo of pupils leaving by the Alice Street doorway on the last day that KBGS occupied the school that I attended, but I assume that it continued as a boys school and used the same name after moving to Oakbank. Or did it? How old will the last intake of boys to KBGS be now? And the transitionary period between the Grammar School and the Comprehensive School must have been interesting. Can anyone shed any light on that?
Years at KBGS e.g. 1958-1964 (optional) 1945 - 1950
I don't remember it being called Oakbank Grammar School, though maybe it was, and I wasn't paying attention. My memory of it is that Joe Watthey changed the name to Keighley School. As if there weren't other schools in Keighley. Anybody else chime in?
There was indeed a good discussion of this topic on the site previously.
I quote my posting on the matter:-
"I think we're repeating history here, but I've trawled the site looking for the relevant postings and can't find them. However, after the brief flirtation with Miles Gale, the school became known as Keighley School. It stll retained this name when I left in 1965. Oakbank Grammar School was a later incarnation."
I still stand by this.
