Just watched a quiz show which required the nationality of a Squash champion as answer. It reminded me of accounts from my Dad (KT&GS free scholar 1922 – 27 a peu pres).
A most popular ex tempore game played in the yard was “Fives”. According to my Dad there was a Fives court (?) in the corner of the yard nearest Fred’s (later Leda) Ice Cream (Alice St), where were the steps into the textile wing that looked ov er the bike sheds/baccy haven.
Does any reader/contributor to this site have any further knowledge or enlightenment on this matter? Was there a Fives championship? And how many times did Longsdon win it?
