DO NOT COME HERE ! EXPENSIVE, RUDE STAFF, CHILD UNFRIENDLY, POOR FACILITIES, FILTHY BAR, FILTHY SHOP/CAFE The new owners took over in September last year and use the fact that they are new as an excuse for anything that goes wrong. We arrived to be told that we were not booked in, despite having emails confirming our dates etc. The cost for a caravan/awning/electrics and 2 children under 10 was £34/night - I told them that I thought this was extortionate, and they replied it was cheaper than all the other sites in the area - the Manageress marched up to me the next day with copies of other local sites tariffs saying "here you go" - I looked at them and quickly calculated that they would have been £25.50 and £27.00. She had not even bothered to check. This was typical of the attitude. The site had a new toilet block, which was OK, although the hot water did fail while we there - nobody's fault. There were 3 hot showers per gender, with 1 hook and no seat it mean't that you had little chance of keeping anything dry. The site is slightly sloping and reasonably dry - but the electrics were woefull. We could not boil a kettle without tripping the MCB (5 times per boil), it had 10amp MCB's - I suspect it was more likely rated at 4-6amps - all of our neighbours had the same problem. We complained 4 times and were told somebody would look at it - NOTHING happened, when challenged on leaving the Manageress and staff just kept saying "Oh it is our first year and we are learning". Some of the plug sockets onto the switch boxes were hanging off and most of the doors were cracked The site is not child friendly there is a ramshackled play area with a couple of swings, and no other amenities - I am not sure it warrants a "play area" icon. The club/bar does not belong to the site, but is on-site in a small mansion house. It is filthy dirty with huge cobwebs and a hundred year layer of dust - we went in, and came out again - never to venture near the place again !! The shop/cafe - is also filthy dirty with a layer of dust/grease over everything. Overall - the site needs a lot more work, the electrics need revamping and at least checking for safety ! They need Management & Staff that know what they are doing and how to deal with their customers; they were aggressive and very rude when we said that they had not solved the problems during our stay As you can tell we WILL NOT be going back ! The area is beautiful - but find yourself another site - try STAR or similar.

I couldn't agree more with the above.
Here is my statement:
We stayed here 2 years ago and we loved it. However, this time round was a different story. Chagnge of management = Arrogant and rude staff, apart from the lady who had worked there for years in the shop, she was lovely and explained that the new owners were new and finding their feet. The price had gone up, even though i had e-mail proof taht they had told me the orginal price. They also charged £20 deposit for a key to use the toilets. Before, they were just open.
I respect that they are new, but there is no need to be rude and make comments as we walk past them like they did. Comments like 'think you should be leaving' - it was our first night. Also, one of the days we went to the toilet and the lady was cleaning it. We said we need the toilet, she said 'well, i need to clean my floor!'. So we waited for her. Then after 10 minutes we asked again and she said that she though we had already been. She was blocking the door so there was no way we could go. Then when we went inside she told my friend off for slamming the toilet door, which she did not do. It was an echo from the wood. Then she said that no drinks were allowed even though there were no signs. This particular lady gave us a horrible look each time she saw us. We kept ourselves to oursleves on the last night and cleaned up every little thing we could find on the grass to not give them anything to pick up on and make us feel eveb more unwanted. As we were leaving, the same lady with the other workers gave us looks as we left, watching our car down the drive.. My friend heard them say 'Don't come back'.
We never did anything wrong and we treated with disrespect for no reason. I just couldn't believe them. They just didn't like us and decided to take it upon themselves to make us feel uncomfortable as possible.
If you are a quiet family then this is ideal. Everyone else, stay away.

I have to say we have had a rather unpleasant experience staying at Hales Hall campsite. Though the pub onsite had a great atmosphere and some very friendly and welcoming staff, the staff at the actual campsite were incredibly rude and offensive.
We arrived as a group of ten 20-30 year olds and were told we were welcome as a group, and were guided to a pitch towards the back of the campsite where we would not disturb anyone. However, in the morning after a complaint of noise during the night which was immediately pinned on us, we were very rudely told to vacate the campsite. Not only this, but after being forced to dish out a £20 deposit for each bathroom key, they then refused to refund any of our deposits due to our supposed bad behaviour.
I would strongly recommend anyone under the age of 50 to avoid this campsite as the owners clearly treat us with a complete lack of respect and blatant prejudice.
