Rapture Flight to Heaven

1 Thessalonians 4:15-18

For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.  For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:  Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air and so shall we ever be with the Lord.  Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

Total solar eclipse 2017: Everything to know about the upcoming celestial event

The countdown is on for Aug. 21, when a total solar eclipse will arc across the continental United States for the first time in decades.

Here's everything you need to know about this rare and striking astronomical event that you won't want to miss.

What is it?

A total solar eclipse is when the moon moves between the sun and Earth, lasting for up to about three hours from beginning to end, according to NASA. The lunar shadow will darken the sky, temperatures will drop and bright stars will appear at a time that is normally broad daylight.

Retired NASA astrophysicist and photographer Fred Espenak said the experience usually lasts for just a couple minutes, but it's truly out of this world.

Why a total solar eclipse is such a big deal

How solar and lunar eclipses work.

On August 21, 2017, a total solar eclipse is coming to the continental United States for the first time in 38 years, which may make it the most viewed total solar eclipse in history. These events generate so much excitement because the orbital mechanics of the earth-moon-sun system keep the moon's shadow small and mobile. It will touch any given spot on the planet only once in over 300 years on average. For that reason, most people must make a concerted effort if they are to witness this event in their lifetimes. In this video we explain the differences between a solar and lunar eclipse and why some believe that a total eclipse of the sun is the greatest natural phenomenon of them all.

If you're anywhere in the continental United States that day, you can preview exactly what the solar eclipse will look like for your particular zip code, and when it will peak. Check it out: https://www.vox.com/science-and-healt...

The Weather Channel's going to offer all-day coverage of that event, that day. We won't get more than a partial eclipse where I live, but at least we can watch the full show itself on the Weather Channel and probably on a live stream.
