This same type of lightening happened a few days ago where I live- looking towards the Strait of Georgia. For a couple hours one night, I couldn't sleep and went to the living room where I could see it. Same thing, there was no thunder. Since I don't have a camera to record it, I didn't post because there was no way to "prove" it. Now that this other person has posted about over Miami and was able to film it, I'm letting you know that this same thing happened here.
There were flashes of light going off with only an occasional regular looking lightening.

I've never seen lightening before without thunder, and never seen it look like this. I tried to find some comment in weather about it the next morning but there was nothing said. then south of us, there was this storm:lightening

I just wanted to mention that I was watching the news on CNN and they had this headline on when they were showing news of the fighting in Syria "the fighting is "destroying" Syria"
