wording in Daniel and Putin's visit to Israel

There is just something about the Russian leader's visit to Israel that doesn't seem in character. It's not like he and Netanyahu or Peres are good buddies. It's not like he doesn't have other places he would rather be. But Putin comes to Israel.
Two ideas I'm just bouncing off you here;

1- Why is he visiting the Jordan where Jesus was baptized? I would be shocked, although delighted if he genuinely accepted Jesus as Lord and became baptized at the Jordan. Are there not enough rivers in Russia to visit? Does the mystery of the Holy Spirit and the Word of God move him?

2- Daniel 11:40-41
Youngs Literal Translation:
40 `And at the time of the end, push himself forward with him doth a king of the south, and storm against him doth a king of the north, with chariot, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he hath come in to the lands, and hath overflowed, and passed over,

41 and hath come into the desirable land, and many do stumble, and these escape from his hand: Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the sons of Ammon.

Is Putin's visit today coming into the desirable land in a way that we did not understand previously? What is the stumbling as Young's translation puts it? "many do stumble" might mean stumbling away from the word of God, being deceived, falling to lies of Gog and military of Gog. Putin certainly does have the resources to come against the "king of the south" in Egypt. He, Putin, is not Muslim. He has the overland vehicles (chariots) and horsemen (steering and troops) and ships to go there with the cooperation of Israel. Has Zero paved the way for Gog rather than himself?
