1 Thessalonians 4:15-18

For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.  For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:  Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air and so shall we ever be with the Lord.  Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

2 Timothy 4:7-8
For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing

A question about timing:past tense in a verse

Calvin posted a message today about Revelation 18

“‘Woe! Woe, O great city,
where all who had ships on the sea
became rich through her wealth!
In one hour she has been brought to ruin!
20 Rejoice over her, O heaven!
Rejoice, saints and apostles and prophets!
God has judged her for the way she treated you.’”

Is the implication of these verses that we are gone before woe falls? Heaven is told to rejoice, then saints and apostles and prophets are named (saints is all of us who believe, those who are already in heaven but its us too, isn't it?)
Then it says judgement falls because of the way Babylon the great city treated (past tense) the saints. So are the saints gone to heaven before this judgement falls?
Some teach no, we need to endure terrible days, others say we are gone first.

These two verses look to me as though we are taken to heaven and then God judges. How do you understand these verses?

Re: A question about timing:past tense in a verse

Actually, the destruction of "Babylon" is slated to take place late in the Tribulation. That's the woe that the verse is speaking of, because it will be totally destroyed forever; it will never be rebuilt. (There's cause to believe that Rome will be that city, for a number of reasons. It already has a history of persecuting the saints and prophets, for one thing, and it will spearhead a fresh wave of persecution during the Tribulation. Plus it sits on 7 hills, and it was the capital of the old Roman Empire.) We won't be here to see that destruction, because we'll be in Heaven with Jesus then.
