1 Thessalonians 4:15-18

   For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.  For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:  Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air and so shall we ever be with the Lord.  Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

Who are the dead in Christ?

I know this must sound very stupid but I am confused. To me the dead in Christ would be all those who have died up until the rapture but I also understand from readings like HEaven is for Real that believers are already in heaven.... so who then will rise to meet Christ? Do you understand my question or do I need to me more clear?

Hi Shannon,

I hope I understood your question correctly. Those who died during the age of grace, everyone who was saved in Jesus, they are in Heaven right now. At the rapture, they will be reunited with their new glorified bodies, which will rise out of the graves before the living are raptured. Then we will meet them in the air and all be with Jesus in our new bodies. Does that answer your question?

The Old Testament saints and the deceased Tribulation believers will be resurrected when Jesus returns.

I believe that Jesus, Himself, raised them from the dead when He arose from the dead...and that many of them walked around in the company of those whom knew them when they were alive.
