1 Thessalonians 4:15-18

For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.  For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:  Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air and so shall we ever be with the Lord.  Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

2 Timothy 4:7-8
For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing

Hear the Trumpet call!

Having the Feast of Trumpets, Rosh Hashannah approaching, it reminds us that the trumpet is associated with many things; a signal, a warning, rejoicing, and readiness. Whether or not this year's "Feast" is the time of the "last trump" or not, I don't know. I am not going to talk about that, and that is not the subject of this post.

What I find interesting is the trumpet, or more accurately the bugle's history in our military. Commands, from revielle, to when to eat, move troops, etc were associated by the various bugle tunes.

Taps is a very interesting tune. It is played at time of bedding down to signify safe sleep as the guards were alertly watching to keep the troops safe. And, of course Taps is played at military funerals. During an innvocation some time back, the following was stated, "Lord of our lives, our hope in death, we cannot listen to Taps without our souls stirring. Its plaintive notes are a prayer in music-of hope, of peace, of grief, of rest. . . Prepare us too, Lord, for our final bugle call when you summon us home! When the trumpet of the Lord shall sound and death will be no more." Chaplain, Col. Edward Brogan, USAF, Ret. Arlington National Cemetery, May 28, 1999.

Taps is a very simple tune, with a total of 24 notes. I will post a link, but not sure how to do it; if not could a mod please fix it, thx.

Lord, we pray that the last trump will sound very soon to summon us home to be with You forever, Amen.
