I live in monroe county and went out this morning
and found 10 real small black ones about 1 to 2 1/2
inches, so the black ones are just now starting.
I had to look real hard to find those 10.
Thanks Julie. I'm up in Indianapolis and, as you many know, there's a big difference between our weather and yours. Even so, I may run out for a while later today and see if I can find anything. It's a good excuse to be out on such a beautiful day!
yes it is beautiful, a little windy down here in
ellettsville but beautiful. I'm trying hard not
to go out again, but i bet i end up out in the woods
again. good luck if you go.
Next weekend, if it doesn't get to cold, will be pretty good for the mushrooms probably
also, If you haven't been yet. Morels.com is a good message board, scroll down and the have a board
for Indiana and it gives a lot of information on
when people find them here.
Thank you so much Julie! Last year was my first attempt at morel hunting and I only found one after almost daily trips to my 2 spots for several weeks. I think I started too late in the season but even so I was so excited to just find even one! I didn't make it out today - too many other obligations that didn't leave me enough time before the rain started. I'll try to plan better next weekend
Yes, they are exciting to find, I've been hunting
for a long time but I'm not real good at it, i can
go all day long and only find 1/2 a sack and others
find bags full. But I have decided the fun is really
when you find one. Next weekend should be good for
the mushrooms I am speculating, but you never know.
