Hi John,
Thanks again for this incredible website.
Have you or anyone you know gone out to find chantrelles?
The season is upon us. I've been told that July 15 is the day for this delicious golden morsel of goodness. Always found on the ground, never on a stump or log. Find after rainy periods, same general areas as morels.
Good luck hunters and do some research before heading out.
Jeff
I am pretty much a "one shroom" guy, but there are those that hunt the Chantrelles around here (more so the southern part of the state) and they are rabid about them, too. Good luck!
I have been hunting chanterelles for the last 3 weeks now. Found about 2 pounds of common yellows and nearly 15 pounds of smooth chanterelles. They are indeed up and should be for a while. I was finding them through late September last year.
I find them in mixed hardwoods with lots of oak. The big patches in my area seem to be found in low lying places where runoff from surrounding hills runs into creeks.
