Even after 2 nights of frost, the morels in this part of Ohio are still coming on strong. 85 yellows, some 8+ inches, 20+ grays, and 54 half frees. 700+ in April is probably a personal record for myself. Boy I love this time of year! PTL
I rarely find them DEEP into the woods. Usually on the edges of woods in second rate growth, weedy patches void of any trees, but most of all around the trusted elms. Fencerows where spores are trapped are also productive.
Rick,I just came back from the woods along a edge of the road I found 4 big black sponge.I wish I could show you.They were laying kind of flat and hard to see,even on my knees.They were about 7 inches.This is strange to find them right after talking to you about an hour ago.I was on my dinner extended dinner hour.Don't tell anyone..Larry
