My daughter and I hunted all day Friday for them along the Missouri river and found not one. I'm not sure that we are looking in the right spots? Should we be looking near water, like a creek or just under any elm or red wood tree?
It's a tough year so far by all accounts. The weather and season timing are nearly perfect. Except that it is suddenly so dry as to be beyond belief. If we get rain in the next few days we could be in fat city. Otherwise???
I found plenty in my area this last week along the big muddy. Try looking around maple trees. I have never seen morels growing so prolithic around maples until this year. Seems to be the only tree that is really producing this year in MO other than dead elms of course.
Ditto!
Found a huge mess of large yellows and greys (fist size) under sugar maples with cottonwoods close by.
Missouri River bottoms rock.
