My 7 year old and I checked some new spots this morning. We found 2 yellows of decent size about 2 weeks earlier than we ever find anything. Quite encouraging after the lousy luck we had last year.
More importantly, the new site where we found these 2 was incredible. This area was perfect -- and huge: a creek "bottom" that was moist, slightly grassy, loose soil, with fallen trees everywhere, and about 20 by 100 yards.
My boy had a blast. Not only did he find these 'shrooms (with me guiding him -- OK, pointing straight to them), he found 5 turtles, a toad, and a walnut. Life rarely is so good.
Congrats Bob...I look forward to a better year as well. I appreciate your help last year. It helped with the frustration of a first timer.
