We had a really bad ice storm back in January and my woods are not recognizable or passable in some spots. Huge trees uprooted. Hope to find my old spots this year. Went out last night nothing yet where I could get to.
Ditto on the ice damage here in Ohio. Here in north-central Ohio(Wyandot Co.) many woods are impossible to walk in.
3 nights of 50+ temps. and a forcast of rain Thursday should get the grays up.
Why you are traversing the damage make note of elms that were taken out by the storm. Last year I found several motherloads under dead elms that had been killed in an ice storm back in 2001. Note their location and check them next year to find a few, but in 2007 they should pop like mad. Always sad to lose a big elm, but at least there is some benefit when you see the hundreds of morels 3 years later. So there's at least one upside.
That's been my experience at least.
